For the eighth time in ELFF’s history (and our fourth time ever in the spring), filmmakers from the Mid-Michigan area will come together to write, shoot, edit, and premiere an original five-minute production in just 48 hours. At the start of the competition, participants are given specified elements to include in their film: a location, prop and line of dialogue. New this year, teams will have to draw a genre from among the following to be incorporated into their finished film: Comedy,
Drama, Horror, Road Movie, Romance, Sci-Fi, Spoof or Thriller.
ALL four of these elements must be incorporated into their film, and ALL production must occur during the allotted 48 hours.

Based on the best-selling novel, Brick Lane tells the story of Nazneen who at the tender age of 17 is forced into an arranged marriage to an older man. She exchanges her Bangladeshi village home for a block of flats in London’s East End. In this new world, pining for her home and her sister, she struggles to make sense of her existence – and to do her duty to her husband. Set in multicultural Britain, Brick Lane is a truly contemporary story of love, cultural difference, and ultimately, the strength of the human spirit.
